About the Institute

1963: The Chemical-Biological Faculty was opened at Kemerovo State Pedagogical Institute (later KemSU); its only Department of Natural Science united both chemists and biologists.
1964: The Department of Chemistry was opened;
1967: The Department of Botany and the Department of Human and Animal Anatomy and Physiology were founded on the basis of the Department of Natural Science.
1974: The Chemical Faculty and Biological Faculty was divided into Chemical and Biological faculties.
1975: The Department of Zoology was opened,
2003: The Department of Genetics joined the faculty.
2009: The Department of Modern Natural Science joined the faculty.
2011: Department of Geology and Geography was opened.
2013: Department of Human and Animal Physiology and Valeology was renamed the Department of Human Physiology and Life Safety.
2014: Department of Modern Natural Science joined Department of Genetics.
2016: the Biological Faculty was reorganised into the Institute of Biology, Ecology and Natural Resources. A number of structural changes took place in the newly created institute: several departments combined into the Department of Ecology and Nature Management. The Department of Human Physiology and Life Safety became the Department of Human and Animal Physiology and Psychophysiology.
2020: the joint Department of Physiology and Genetics was created.

For more than 50 years, the Institute has been the foundation of natural science education in the Kemerovo region. Its achievements and facilities make it possible to conduct modern scientific research in the field of natural sciences.

The Institute involves practitioners and representatives of employers to strengthen the practical orientation of academic programs.
