Preparatory department


The Preparatory department welcomes international students wishing to improve their knowledge of the Russian Language and other academic subjects.

Since the 1990s, students from Armenia, Afghanistan, Belgium, China, France, Guinea, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Ivory Coast, Laos, Mongolia, Syria, Sudan, Turkey, Vietnam, and Zambia have mastered their knowledge of Russian at Kemerovo State University.

Russian as Foreign Language (RFL) is taught by prominent Assistant Professors and Associate Professors at KemSU’s Department of Russian Language and Literature who are experts in teaching RFL.

Special academic disciplines (Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, History, Social Sciences, and Literature) are taught by teachers of relevant departments who are experienced in and qualified for teaching foreign students.

The Preparatory department welcomes international students wishing to improve their knowledge of the Russian Language and other academic subjects.

For foreign citizens wishing to enroll on a Bachelor degree / Master degree / PhD program taught in Russian

The duration of the program is 10 months: from October to July. The program includes 1008 contact hours and 1368 hours of self-study. 648 contact hours are devoted to mastering the major discipline: Russian as a Foreign Language.

The Preparatory Course is offered in two different areas: natural sciences and humanities. According to the future are of study, the students are required to take courses in special academic disciplines:

  • Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry for those wishing to major in natural sciences;
  • History, Social Sciences, and Literature - for those wishing to major in humanities.

The students are also offered courses in Country studies (introducing the history and culture of Russia and Kuzbass) and Russian for research and scientific communication.

Students of the Preparatory department are involved in different extracurricular activities. They are welcome to join KemSU’s Centre for Intercultural Communications and International Friendship Club. Teachers and tutors organize excursions over the city and the region as well as visits to museums, theatres, libraries, etc.

To be enrolled for the program, students are required to send a scan of their passport and their previous diploma / certificate of graduation.

The tuition fee in the academic year 2019/2020 was 106 000 rubles.

For foreign citizens wishing to improve their knowledge of Russian

KemSU’s Preparatory department can offer tailored courses depending on your educational goals

  • living and studying in Russia;
  • taking the TRKI exam (Test of Russian as a Foreign Language);
  • getting the official work permit or residence permit in Russia.

The tuition fee is calculated upon request.
